Thelonious Hamel

about

Thelonious Hamel is a multidisciplinary musician, composer and performance artist currently based between the south of Germany and Salzburg, Austria. He has gained a lot of experience as a film music composer, in the collective of festival organisation and in work for installations. Thelonious developed an organic style between electro acoustic, sound design, clarinet playing and experimental musically approach that flows together, so the recipient and the communicator are in a fluid exchange. The aim is always to explore the space and the environment in the resonance field, to question, to ask questions and to build bridges. The music can be understood as the artist would like to disappear, opening a space with each other for the other. At the moment he is working on his solo album besides film music, duo performances with his father Peter Michael Hamel and a performance trio ‚Imbraiserhed‘. He has been honoured with several international awards, especially for his remarkable film scores.

short

Thelonious Hamel, MA born in 1997, a versatile musician and composer, has extensive experience in performances, film music and installations. His organic-experimental style combines electro-acoustic music, sound design and clarinet in a flowing exchange that creates space for reflection and dialogue. He graduated at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences in Multimedia Art (Master’s degree) in January 2024.

Alongside performing and composing, Thelonious is part of Performing Sound Salzburg and The Factory Free Art Space Salzburg. He supports and, in past years, was also part of the team at Unsafe+Sounds Festival and Struma & Iodine.

MNEME at Forum 1 | in collaboration with Nina Vasilchenko

November 2024, 19:00 Uhr, Ort: Forum 1, Salzburg, Dauer: 15. – 24. November Mo-Fr: 14:00 – 19:00 Sa: 12:00 – 17:00 So: geschlossen
